Barton women's basketball celebrates Senior Day in style with 103-56 win over Southern Wesleyan

Box Score

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (21-5, 18-3) triumphed on Senior Day with another dominant victory over Southern Wesleyan (3-24, 3-18), 103-56, Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas game.

Barton, ranked eighth in this week's NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll, was led by junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) with 17 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) added a double-double of her own – 15 points and 18 rebounds – as the Bulldogs won their eighth straight game.  Peterkin added four blocked shots and now has 21 double-doubles on the year.

The duo was two of five players to score in double figures for the Bulldogs, who defeated the Warriors by a score of 101-33 earlier in the year on Saturday, January 18, in Central, S.C.  Barton junior guard Michelle Gainey (Rocky Mount, N.C.) added 15 points as the Bulldogs remained in sole possession of second place in the league regular season standings.

Southern Wesleyan was led by Emily Waters (Villa Rica, Ga.) with 10 points but the Warriors shot just 33 percent (21-of-63) from the floor and turned the ball over 20 times.  Barton also held a 58-33 advantage on the boards.

Barton wraps up the regular season with a trip to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Converse on Tuesday night while Southern Wesleyan hosts Erskine in league action Tuesday beginning at 5:30 p.m.
