Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (20-5, 17-3) battled early on but eventually pulled away to defeat rival Mount Olive (17-7, 14-6), 80-67, Wednesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium in a Conference Carolinas game.
Barton junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) finished with 23 points and 14 rebounds – her 20th double-double on the season – as the Bulldogs won their seventh straight game and guaranteed themselves at least second place in the league regular season standings. Peterkin also hit 11-of-12 free throw attempts.
Sophomore forward Jami Tham-Morrobel (Arlington, Va.) added a double-double of her own – 20 points and 11 rebounds – for the Bulldogs, who trailed at halftime by a 33-32 score and entered the fourth and final quarter tied at 56.
Barton outscored Mount Olive by a 24-11 count in the decisive final stanza to sweep the season series from Mount Olive. Barton senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) added 15 points and five treys in the win as well. Baer has a league-leading 89 three-pointers on the year. Mount Olive was led by Jada Bacchus (Wilmington, N.C.) with a game-high 26 points
Barton remains at home to host Southern Wesleyan for Senior Day on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., while Mount Olive hosts North Greenville on Saturday in a league game beginning at 2:00 p.m., as well.
