Box Score CENTRAL, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (12-4, 9-2) won its fifth straight game in emphatic fashion, 101-33 over Southern Wesleyan (1-16, 1-10) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Tysinger Gymnasium.
Barton senior guard Summer Baer (Fleming Island, Fla.) finished with a game-high 26 points with seven three-pointers as the Bulldogs dominated from the start in the rousing win. Barton hit 13 three-pointers and totaled a season-high in points on the day as well.
The Bulldogs led 29-9 at the end of the first quarter and 50-20 at halftime before holding the Warriors to just 13 points after the break as Barton remained in sole possession of second place in the league regular season standings.
Barton junior center Shanika Peterkin (Virginia Beach, Va.) totaled 13 points and freshman Kaliyah Gladney (Jamestown, N.C.) added a double-double off the bench – 10 points and 18 rebounds – as the Bulldogs limited the Warriors to just 23 percent (12-of-52) from the floor. Southern Wesleyan, losers of eight straight games, was led by Denisha Hall (Rock Hill, S.C.) with nine points.
Barton has a quick turnaround and will face Erskine in Conference Carolinas game on Monday at 2:00 p.m., in Due West, S.C., while Southern Wesleyan hosts Mount Olive on Monday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., as well.
