Barton women's volleyball sweeps Elizabeth City State, 3-0, in home opener

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (2-3) swept Elizabeth City State (0-2), 3-0, in its 2019 home opener Tuesday evening at Ralph L. Fike High School. 

The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-14, 25-14, and 25-15 and the contest was the first of nine straight home matches.

Barton was led by senior middle blocker Kelsey Riquelme (Lutz, Fla.) and junior outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with 12 kills each as the Bulldogs hit .387 for the match in the victory.  Meanwhile, sophomore setter Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) added five kills and 18 assists and the Bulldogs totaled 14 service aces as a team.

Elizabeth City State was led by Kaylee Williams (Dover, Del.) and Jahera Dangerfield (Jacksonville, N.C.) with five kills each but the Vikings hit just .177 for the contest.

Barton remains at home to take on Shaw on Thursday at James B. Hunt High School beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Elizabeth City State hosts Regent on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
