Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (0-2) suffered an 88-85 setback to Augusta (1-1) Saturday afternoon on the second and final day of the 45 Second Classic at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Jaguars' Miguel Arnold (San Juan, PUERTO RICO) and Rafael Monteiro (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) both finished with 18 points and were two of four players in double figures for Augusta, who hit 53 percent (32-of-60) from the field in the win.
Barton had five players reach double figures – including a game-high 23 points from all-league junior forward Isaiah Reddish (Durham, N.C.) – but the Bulldogs were hurt by their performance behind the arc. Barton hit just three-of-23 three-point attempts and allowed Augusta to build a 12 point advantage – 68-56 with 9:44 left in the contest – as the visitors came out strong to start the second half.
Barton led at halftime by a 42-40 margin while all-conference junior guard Michael Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) added 12 points in the losing effort.
Augusta, who was picked to finish first in the Peach Belt Conference Preseason Poll and ranked No. 13 in NCAA Division II, also received 17 points from Tyree Myers (Baltimore, Md.). In the first game of the 45 Second Classic on Saturday, Mount Olive downed Columbus State by a 107-102 score in overtime.
Barton will look for its first win of the year when the Bulldogs travel to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face Elizabeth City State Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Augusta takes on Claflin on the road Wednesday beginning at 6:00 p.m.
