Barton women's volleyball falls in five sets to Emmanuel, 3-2, in league tournament

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Barton women's volleyball team (11-13) fell to Emmanuel (Ga.) (18-12), 3-2, in the Quarterfinals of the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championship Tuesday evening at the Shaw Athletic Center.

The Lions won by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 23-25, 25-12 and 15-10 and rallied from a 2-1 deficit with victories in the fourth and fifth sets to beat the Bulldogs for the second time this year.  Emmanuel (Ga.) was the second seed in the West Division while Barton was seeded third from the East Division.

Emmanuel (Ga.) will next compete against the top seed from the East Division, Belmont Abbey (20-12), in the league tournament semifinals on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., at the Wheeler Center in Belmont, N.C.  The Lions have also won four straight contests.

The Lions' Taylor Roberts (Rome, Ga.) finished with a team-high 16 kills while Jessica Gray (Ball Ground, Ga.) added 13 kills and 12 digs and Emmanuel finished with nine service aces in the victory.

Barton junior outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) finished with a match-high 23 kills while freshman outside hitter Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) added 16 kills and 18 digs for the double-double.  The Bulldogs, however, hit just 0.106 for the match.  Elkins is fourth all-time on the school's career kills' list with 1,310.
