Barton women's volleyball rebounds with 3-0 home sweep of Chowan

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (5-6, 2-3) bounced back with a 3-0 sweep of Chowan (3-8, 1-4) Wednesday evening at Ralph L. Fike High School in a Conference Carolinas match.

The Bulldogs defeated the Hawks by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16 and snapped a three-match losing streak in the process.

Barton was led by freshman outside hitter Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) and junior outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, while sophomore setter Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) had another outstanding all-around match with five kills, five service aces, 19 assists and 10 digs in the win.  Barton finished with 10 service aces as a team as well.

Elkins, meanwhile, has a team-leading 189 kills on the year and her 1,158 career kills ranks seventh on the school's all-time list.

Chowan was led by Anixa Rosa-Martinez (San Lorenzo, PUERTO RICO) with 11 kills and nine digs but the Hawks hit just .100 for the contest in suffering their third straight setback. 

Barton remains at home to take on King (Tenn.) in a Conference Carolinas contest Friday at 7:00 p.m., at Beddingfield High School while Chowan hosts Lees-McRae on Friday in league action beginning at 7:00 p.m., as well.
