Barton women's volleyball downs rival Mount Olive, 3-1, on the road

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (8-10, 5-6) picked up a 3-1 Conference Carolinas victory over rival Mount Olive (5-12, 1-8) Saturday afternoon at Kornegay Arena.

The Bulldogs won by scores of 25-18, 15-25, 25-21 and 25-22 as Barton played its fourth straight road contest.

Barton was led by the duo of junior outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) and freshman outside hitter Allison Gambill (Hickory, N.C.) with 16 kills each.  Elkins and Gambill rank second and fourth in the league in kills with 265 and 242, respectively.  Elkins leads the league in kills per set (4.14) as well.

Sophomore setter Sarah Kirk (Pearland, Texas) finished with four kills, 21 assists and 17 digs for the Bulldogs, who totaled 10 service aces and limited the Trojans to just a 0.098 hitting percentage on the day.  Mount Olive was led by Amara Eziakonwa (Tampa, Fla.) with 11 kills but the Trojans saw their two-match winning streak come to an end.

Barton remains on the road to take on Emmanuel (Ga.) next Friday in a league contest in Franklin Springs, Ga., beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Mount Olive travels to Tigerville, S.C., to take on North Greenville on Friday, November 1, at 7:00 p.m., as well.
