Barton men's soccer upended by Erskine, 2-1, at home

Box Score

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (10-3-1, 5-3) saw its four-match winning streak come to an end with a 2-1 setback to Erskine (5-6-1, 4-3) Saturday on Homecoming in Conference Carolinas action at Electric Supply Company Field.

Trailing by a 1-0 score at halftime, the Flying Fleet took advantage of the Bulldogs being a man down and rallied with a pair of goals from Juande Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) and Fernando Gonzalez (Rock Hill, S.C.), respectively, in the second half to steal the win.

Rodriguez also assisted on the match-winning score at the 69:48 mark while Alex Pico (Palma de Mallorca, SPAIN) earned the victory in goal after stopping five shots as Erskine won its third straight match.

Barton junior forward Ruben Mancio (Guadarrama, SPAIN) scored his team-tying seventh goal of the year to open the scoring in the 21st minute after chipping in freshman forward Omar Aboutaleb's (Asheboro, N.C) saved shot off a deflection.  Aboutaleb was credited with the assist.

However, the Bulldogs' high-powered offense was kept off the board the rest of the way.  Barton senior goalkeeper Francisco Noguera (Santiago, CHILE) stopped four shots but suffered the loss.

Barton looks to bounce back next Saturday, October 26, when the Bulldogs host league-foe Emmanuel (Ga.) beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Erskine hosts Anderson on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
