Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (10-2-1, 5-2) put its offense on display once again with a 7-1 drubbing of Mount Olive (2-7-1, 1-3-1) Wednesday night in a match-up of Conference Carolinas rivals at the Electric Supply Company Field.
Barton freshman forward Omar Aboutaleb (Asheboro, N.C.) tallied a hat trick while the Bulldogs now have 13 goals in their last two contests and took over sole possession of second place in the conference standings. Aboutaleb now has a team-leading seven goals on the year.
After Mount Olive's Trevor Berk (Wake Forest, N.C.) opened the scoring in the 18th minute, Barton responded by reeling off seven straight goals including an own goal off a corner kick to tie the contest at one.
Barton junior forward Ruben Mancio (Olvera, SPAIN) scored the match-winner with a header off a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Ludovic Rocha (Boulogne Billancourt, FRANCE) at the 28:35 mark of the first half. Both Mancio and Rocha – who scored on a penalty kick – tallied a goal and an assist. Mancio has a team-leading 19 points on the year.
Barton held a 3-1 lead at halftime before breaking the contest open with four goals after intermission. In goal, senior Francisco Noguera (Santiago, CHILE) earned the win for the Bulldogs while Iwan Roberts (Carmarthenshire, WALES) suffered the loss for the Trojans despite five saves on the evening.
Barton looks to stay in the league hunt with a match against Erskine on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., at the Electric Supply Company Field while Mount Olive hosts North Greenville on Saturday beginning at 4:00 p.m., as well.
