WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's soccer team (3-1, 1-1) returned to Conference Carolinas play with a 5-3 victory over North Greenville (3-2-1, 1-1-1) Saturday afternoon at the Bulldogs' Athletic Complex. Ruben Mancio, a sophomore forward from Cadiz, SPAIN, scored twice for the Bulldogs, who looked sharp on offense after a two-week layoff.
Mancio has a team-leading four goals on the season while sophomore midfielder Pol Monells (Barcelona, SPAIN) added four points – a goal and two assists – as the Bulldogs scored their most goals in league play since a 5-1 triumph over North Greenville on Saturday, October 31, 2015, in Tigerville, S.C.
The Bulldogs' Ludovic Rocha (Boulogne Billancourt, FRANCE) scored just 9:12 into the match off a cross to the center of the box from Monells and never looked back as Barton raced to a 4-0 lead just before halftime.
The Crusaders tried to make a contest of it by scoring the final two goals but the deficit was just too great to overcome. Gareth Greene (Navarre, Fla.) scored twice for North Greenville with his second goal coming just 15 seconds after a score from Zach Baker (Taylors, S.C.) at the 83:34 mark to round out the scoring.
Tolly Beatson, a senior midfielder from Gillingham, ENGLAND, added a goal and an assist while junior Francisco Noguera (Santiago, CHILE) made four saves while earning the win in goal for the Bulldogs. North Greenville's goalkeeper, Noah Kendrick (Cleveland, Ga.), stopped six shots but suffered the setback.
Barton remains at home to take on Southern Wesleyan in a Conference Carolinas match on Monday at Noon the Gillette Athletic Complex in Wilson, N.C. North Greenville plays at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., on Monday night beginning at 7:00 p.m.
