HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Junior Rebecca Fraser's tally in the 30th minute of the first half propelled the Barton College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win on Thursday night against the Coker College Cobras at the Coker Athletic Field.

Barton (1-0) opens its 2018 campaign with a victory for the first time since the 2015 season as the Bulldogs recorded a 1-0 victory against Goldey-Beacom. Coker (0-1) recorded three shots on frame in the contest but would be unable to find the back of the net despite early pressure in the first half.

Fraser paced the Bulldogs with a trio of shots and two shots on goal, while sophomore Syaani Harris recorded three shots in the contest. Senior Laisy Scardazzi tallied three shots with one finding its way on net. Junior Rebekah Beal and freshman Alexis Ayers each recorded an assist for Barton, who tallied 15 shots and eight on goal in the contest.

Coker was guided offensively by Georgia Reece, who notched a pair of shots on goal for the Cobras. Ashley Hogg notched one shot on goal in the contest, while three other Coker players each took a shot. Coker recorded six shots in the contest, three in each half of play.

Junior goalkeeper Megan Bolick thwarted an early opportunity by the Cobras in the first half as she denied a shot from Hogg in the 7th minute. Freshman Caitlynn Bragg recorded her first collegiate shot on goal for Barton in the 26th minute of play as Coker goalkeeper Samantha Hoffman made the stop.

BC tallied its first goal of the season at the 29:46 mark as Fraser took a feed from Beal and would eventually beat Hoffman to make it 1-0.

The second half would see Harris deliver a shot for Barton that would be stopped by Hoffman in the 57th minute. The Bulldogs would later have three chances to try and increase their lead as Beal, Fraser, and senior Jordyn Brown each fired a shot on net.

Keegan gave Barton a 2-0 advantage in the 72nd minute after finishing off a header that would beat Hoffman. Ayers assisted on the goal for her first collegiate point. Coker looked to trim the deficit in the 80th minute as Reece tallied her second shot on goal but would be denied by Bolick.

Bolick (1-0) recorded her third-career shutout for Barton and finished with two saves in the contest. Hoffman (0-1) was handed with the loss for Coker despite making six saves on eight shots in the contest.

Barton continues its five-game road trip with a 6 p.m. matchup against Methodist on Sept. 4 in Fayetteville, N.C. The Bulldogs then head to Salisbury, N.C. to take part in the Catawba Classic.
