Box Score WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (7-3, 1-2), ranked No. 20 in NCAA Division II, suffered its second consecutive setback with an 88-71 loss to Emmanuel (Georgia) (6-4, 2-0) in a Conference Carolinas game Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Lions took advantage of 14 first-half turnovers by the Bulldogs in building a 52-26 halftime advantage. Emmanuel, which led by as many as 30 points, were paced by Brandon Simpson (Germantown, Md.) with a game-high 26 points including 21 points in the decisive opening half. Simpson pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double.
Kendrick Colvin (Moncure, N.C.) added 18 points for the Lions, who shot 68 percent (21-of-31) in the first half and finished with 10 treys in snapping a two-game losing streak.
Barton junior guard Michael Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) scored a team-high 21 points and senior forward Bobby Stenborg (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore forward Isaiah Reddish (Durham, N.C.) added 16 points each as the Bulldogs tried to make a second-half run but the deficit was too great to overcome.
Barton remains at Wilson Gymnasium to face Erskine in a Conference Carolinas game on Saturday, December 15, at 4:00 p.m. Emmanuel, meanwhile, plays North Greenville on the road in a league contest on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
