Barton men's basketball recovers with 97-56 rout of North Greenville in league opener

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (7-1, 1-0), ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II, recovered from its first loss of the season with a dominant 97-56 win over North Greenville (1-7, 0-2) Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium in its Conference Carolinas opener.

Eleven players scored for the Bulldogs – led by sophomore guard Jake Kakar (Boston, Mass.) with a game-high 20 points – as Barton built a 44-21 advantage at halftime and never looked back.  Barton would eventually lead by as many as 42 points, 84-42 with 6:13 left in the contest, and finished the game with 12 three-pointers.

Senior forward Bobby Stenborg (Garner, N.C.), the team's leading scorer coming into the contest, added 17 points while senior guard Zach Grant (Richmond, Va.) hit five treys and totaled 15 points as the Bulldogs shot a sizzling 61 percent (36-of-59) for the game in the win.

North Greenville, which lost its seventh straight game, was led by Kovi Tate (McDonough, Ga.) with 17 points and 10 rebounds but was the lone Crusader to score in double figures.  North Greenville turned the ball over 22 times and shot just 36 percent (22-of-61) from the field in the losing effort.  The Bulldogs also scored 39 points off turnovers compared to the Crusaders' five.

Barton hosts Belmont Abbey in a Conference Carolinas game on Tuesday evening at Wilson Gymnasium beginning at 7:30 p.m.  North Greenville, meanwhile, plays Belmont Abbey on the road on Friday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m.
