WILSON, N.C. – The Barton volleyball team (14-14, 10-3) got back to .500 on the season with a 3-0 sweep over Lees-McRae (7-21, 3-10) in a Conference Carolinas contest Friday evening at Wilson Gymnasium. The Bulldogs defeated the Bobcats by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-16.
The Bulldogs were led by sophomore outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) with a match-high 14 kills while senior setter Angelica Acevedo (Coamo, PUERTO RICO) added 33 assists as the Bulldogs beat the Bobcats for the second time this year. Elkins has a league-leading 444 kills on the season.
Senior outside hitter Haley Headley (Callao, Va.) finished with eight kills as well for the Bulldogs, who limited the Bobcats to just a 0.050 hitting percentage and totaled 10 blocks on the night. Kaci Thornton (Lubbock, Texas) finished with five kills for Lees-McRae.
Barton hosts Belmont Abbey (20-9, 11-2) in a Conference Carolinas showdown for Senior Day on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Lees-McRae takes on Mount Olive in a league match Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Bulldogs are one game behind the Crusaders in the league's north division race.
