Barton men's basketball overwhelms Coker in 98-61 road victory

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (3-0) remained unbeaten on the season with an impressive 98-61 win over Coker (0-1) Tuesday night at the DeLoach Center.

Three players – senior forward Bobby Stenborg (Garner, N.C.), junior guard Michael Boykin (Clinton, N.C.) and sophomore forward Blake Burdack (Melbourne, AUSTRALIA) – combined for 55 points to lead the Bulldogs to the win.  Stenborg led all scorers with 19 points while Boykin and Burdack added 18 points each as the Bulldogs shot 53 percent (40-of-76) from the field in the win.

Three players for the Cobras – Khalil Halls (Vance, S.C.), Larry Cooper (Lake City, S.C.) and Diez Mungro (Latta, S.C.) – all scored 15 points in the setback.

Barton raced to a 52-33 advantage at halftime and eventually built its lead to as many as 41 points – 93-52 on a trey by sophomore guard Jake Kakar (Boston, Mass.) – in the victory.  The Bulldogs also forced the Cobras into 17 turnovers and held the home team to just three treys in 18 attempts.  Barton is also off to its best start in six seasons.

Barton takes on UNC Pembroke in the Pickle Classic on Friday in Mount Olive, N.C., beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Coker hosts Belmont Abbey on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
