TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton women's soccer team (10-6-1), the seventh seed in the 2018 Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship, upset second-seeded North Greenville (10-6) by a 2-1 score in the quarterfinal round Tuesday night at Pepsi Stadium.
The Bulldogs received goals from senior midfielder Laisy Scardazzi (Sao Paulo, BRAZIL) and sophomore forward Syaani Harris (Ashland, Va.) on their way to their fourth straight victory. Both players are tied for the team lead in goals with seven.
Scardazzi's score – assisted by junior forward Rebekah Beal (Nashville, N.C.) – came just 10:54 into the contest while Harris' goal came in the 52nd minute to make it a 2-0 contest. North Greenville's Michaela Gleed (Spartanburg, S.C.) cut the margin in half with just over three-and-a-half minutes left but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the win.
North Greenville held a 16-7 edge in shots taken but Barton defeated the Crusaders for the second time this year. In goal, junior Megan Bolick (Salisbury, N.C.) made nine saves for the Bulldogs in earning the victory while the Crusaders' Brianna Rowe (Smithsburg, Md.) stopped a pair of shots in suffering the setback.
Barton will take on third-seeded Belmont Abbey (13-3) in the league tournament semifinals on Friday at 7:00 p.m., in Gaffney, S.C., on the campus of Limestone College. The Crusaders defeated sixth-seeded Erskine (6-10-1) by a 1-0 score on Tuesday at home in their quarterfinal match.
