TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton volleyball team (13-14, 9-3) fell to North Greenville (17-11, 9-5) by a 3-1 score on Saturday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Hayes Gymnasium. The Crusaders defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-22.
North Greenville was led by Katie McManaway (Mount Vernon, Ohio) with 18 kills while Annie Beisecker (Hartsville, S.C.) and Courtney Williamson (Chesnee, S.C.) both tallied 11 kills each as the Crusaders won their fifth straight match.
Barton sophomore outside hitter Kaytlin Elkins (Hope Mills, N.C.) totaled a match-high 20 kills and senior setter Angelica Acevedo (Coamo, Puerto Rico) tallied her second straight double-double – 39 assists and 13 digs – in the losing effort. Elkins increased league-leading kill total to 430 in the process.
The Bulldogs fell behind by two sets for the second straight contest but the deficit was too great to overcome this time around. Senior libero Riley Bane (Wilson, N.C.) added 17 digs for Barton, who remained in third place in the conference standings.
Barton returns home to take on Lees-McRae on Friday night beginning at 7:00 p.m., in a Conference Carolinas match. North Greenville, meanwhile, plays Southern Wesleyan on the road next Saturday at 2:00 p.m., in a league contest.
