MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton College women's volleyball team earned a three-set sweep against Chowan University on Tuesday night, downing the Hawks 25-13, 25-21, 25-16. Freshman Kaytlin Elkins delivered a match-high 16 kills and added three digs for the Bulldogs.

Senior Miranda Miller totaled five kills and a team-high 10 digs, while junior Angelica Acevedo recorded match-high 32 assists to go along with nine digs. Junior Allie Cullens chipped in 12 kills and one solo block.

The victory improves the Lady Bulldogs' record to 2-3 on season as they will head to Aiken, South Carolina this weekend to take part in the two-day USC Aiken Invitational. BC will play Lander University at 5 p.m. on Friday night and host, USC Aiken at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Saturday afternoon for a pair of matches against Fayetteville State University at 12 p.m. and Augusta University at 2 p.m.

Barton would take control of the match early against the Hawks (0-4), holding an 11-2 advantage in the opening set after a kill by Elkins. The six-point run for the Bulldogs would be stopped on an attack error by Elkins, allowing Chowan to trim the deficit to 11-3. The Hawks used a mini rally mid-way through the set as Brittany Tschida recorded a kill that pulled her team to within four points (13-9). A block by Cullens would seal the opening-set win for the Bulldogs and cap-off a 6-0 run to preserve the 25-13 score.

The second set wouldn't come as easy for BC as Chowan held multiple four-point advantages in the set. The first advantage for the Hawks would come after a Courtney Wiseman service error made it 10-6. Barton continued to battle in the set, rallying to trim a four-point deficit into a 13-12 lead halfway through the set. Leading 24-19 and looking to try and close things out, Chowan had other thoughts as it kept the set alive by recording back-to-back points and pull within three points (24-21). Junior Haley Headley would prove to be the hero for BC as her kill of an assist from Acevedo gave the Bulldogs a 25-21 victory.

In the third set it would be all Barton as the Bulldogs would lead from start to finish en route to completing the sweep of Chowan. BC tallied a match-high 15 kills as a team in the set and would hit .250 from the floor. Again it would be Cullens who put the finishing touches on the victory for the Bulldogs as her kill gave BC the 25-16 edge and the match.

Tschida paced the Chowan offense with eight kills in the match, while Milica Vejnovic recorded four kills and 10 digs. Bailey Zavala recorded a match-high 12 digs for the Hawks. Karisa Patterson paced Chowan with 18 assists while also adding 10 digs.
