Scardazzi and Barata get first Barton goals, Bulldogs collect first league win of season

CENTRAL, S.C.Laisy Scardazzi and Amanda Barata collected their first goals in a Barton uniform and the Lady Bulldogs gained their first Conference Carolinas win of the season Saturday with a 3-0 road shutout at Southern Wesleyan University.

Scardazzi, a Sao Paulo, Brazil, resident who transferred into the program this season, tallied two goals in the contest, striking in the 19th minute and again in the 55th minute off an assist from Taylor Doeble.

Barata, a sophomore from High Point, N.C., registered her first career goal 10 minutes later as part of a dominant second half for the Lady Bulldogs (2-4-2, 1-1-2). Holding a three-shot edge at the break, 8-5, Barton enjoyed a 15-1 advantage in attempts in the final frame against the Warriors (3-4, 0-3).

Senior keeper Haley Sauls registered four saves in just under 73 minutes of play in net for BC before giving way to Megan Bolick, who finished off Barton's second shutout of the year.

Southern Wesleyan goalie Courtney McNeill collected seven saves in the loss.

In addition to the 23-6 edge in total shots, Barton held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action next weekend when they visit Belmont Abbey College for a noon matchup.
