DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Barton College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday on the final day of the Bahama House Classic, downing Lynn University in five sets before falling to host Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in straight sets.

Freshman Kaytlin Elkins delivered a match-high 19 kills and added 14 digs in the win over Lynn. Senior Miranda Miller added 15 kills and 11 digs, and Angelica Acevedo produced a double-double as well with 52 assists and 19 digs. Junior Riley Bane contributed a team-high 20 digs, and junior Allie Cullens chipped in 14 kills and five block assists.

Miller paced BC on offense against ERAU with seven kills. Bane had 16 digs, and Acevedo collected another double-double with 22 assists and 13 digs.

With the split, the Lady Bulldogs completed play at the tournament with a 1-3 mark.

Barton 3, Lynn 2 (28-26, 25-20, 25-17)

Barton sealed its first win of 2017 with a 5-0 run midway through the fifth set. Janay Yulis and Miller both had kills during the stretch, but the Fighting Knights (1-1) helped BC with three errors. Lynn had just three kills and six errors in the decisive frame (-.158 percentage) after hitting better than .200 for the rest of the match.

The Lady Bulldogs seized momentum in the match following a timeout in set three, taken after falling behind 19-16. Consecutive kills by Cullens and Elkins, then a service ace by Ashley Owen, tied the match and forced Lynn to call a timeout.

The two sides traded points to 23-all, when consecutive kills by Cullens and Yulis wrapped up the important set for the Lady Bulldogs.

Barton had a 23-22 lead late in set four after a kill by Cullens, but Lynn won the next point on a kill and BC never gained the advantage again in the frame.

The 19 kills for the freshman Elkins and 15 for Miller were both career highs. The 14 kills for Cullens matched her career-high, set her freshman year.

Embry-Riddle 3, Barton 0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-13)

Barton never gave itself much of a chance against the host Eagles (1-1), hitting just .049 for the match.

Trailing 23-20 in the second set, a kill by Haley Headley and an Embry-Riddle attack error pulled the Lady Bulldogs within one point, but ERAU produced consecutive kills to wrap up the frame and take a commanding 2-0 advantage in the match.

The Eagles hit .357 in a dominant third set while BC had more errors than kills (-.067).

Barton will visit Chowan University for its next match on Tuesday.
