WILSON, N.C. – Looking to secure its first Conference Carolinas win of the season, the Barton College men's soccer team fell 1-0 to league opponent Southern Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon at the Barton Outdoor Athletics Complex.
The two sides played to a scoreless tie at intermission as the Warriors held an 8-5 advantage in total shots through the first 45 minutes of action. Barton keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik had three saves in the opening half to keep the scoreboard clean. The junior finished the match with four saves while playing all 90 minutes.
However, Southern Wesleyan was able to score just three minutes into the second half of action as freshman Skyler Mattox drove deep into Bulldog territory before finishing a ball into the lower right corner from the left side of the box.
Barton, who outshot SWU 6-4 in the second half, had a corner kick in the 87th minute and a shoot on goal in the 89th minute but could not come away with an equalizer.
The Bulldogs will be in action again on Tuesday, September 27 when they host Coker College in a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m. in Wilson.
