FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. – The Barton College men's soccer team was unable to complete a late-game comeback, falling to Emmanuel College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action.
The Bulldogs fell to 3-7-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the league following the loss, while the Lions evened their season record at 5-5 with a 2-3 mark in conference play.
Emmanuel struck first with a goal in the 33rd minute from Channing Park. The Lions carried the one-goal advantage into the halftime break after outshooting the Bulldogs 11-6 in the opening half of action.
The Lions moved their edge to a 2-0 lead following a goal from Sean Fitzgerald in the 61st minute on an assist from Park. BC looked to mount a rally late in the match with an unassisted goal from junior Alex Blake in the 77th minute. Barton had three shots in the final 11 minutes but none could find the back of the net.
Emmanuel held a 21-10 advantage in total shots, including a 9-5 margin in shots-on-goal, as junior keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik recorded three saves in net for Barton.
Barton hosts nationally-ranked Pfeiffer University on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Barton Outdoor Athletic Complex.
