MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton College and University of Mount Olive women's soccer teams battled to a scoreless draw in Conference Carolinas play Tuesday night at Amon Field.

The Trojans (5-6-2, 3-5-2) enjoyed a 27-5 margin in total shots in the contest, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. However, Barton junior keeper Haley Sauls collected 10 saves, one off her career-high, in earning her first solo shutout of the year.

The only shot attempt on goal for Barton (6-8-1, 5-4-1) came on a free kick off the foot of Carson Molaro with 2:12 left in regulation, but UMO keeper Stephanie McCoy easily corralled the ball for her lone save of the night.

Mount Olive had two shots hit the crossbar, one midway through the first half and the other four minutes into the first overtime session, but the Lady Bulldogs survived to post their third shutout of the year.

With the tie, Barton gained one point in the league standings and moved into sole possession of fourth place for the moment. It also guaranteed the Lady Bulldogs a finish of no worse than sixth in the final regular-season standings.

Lees-McRae College and King University, the two teams directly behind the Lady Bulldogs in fifth and sixth, both still have two league matches remaining and could jump BC with wins. However, LMC and King play each other on Wednesday, and Barton closes its regular-season at King on Saturday. BC and King will face off at 1 p.m. in Bristol, Tenn.
