Men's soccer blanked by Erskine on the road

DUE WEST, S.C. – The recent struggles continued for the Barton men's soccer team in a 2-0 loss to the Flying Fleet of Erskine College on Saturday afternoon.

Barton fell to 3-9-1 overall with its third straight loss and 1-5-1 in Conference Carolinas play. In comparison, Erskine improved to 7-5 with a 5-2 mark in league play which ranks them third in the standings.

The two sides played to a scoreless tie at intermission with just four combined shots, three of which came from Barton. However, Erskine fired off 16 shots in the second half, netting two goals in the process. Junior keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik turned away five shots in goal.

Erskine midfielder Daniel Jonna put his team on the board with a goal in the 66th minute on an assist from Louis Gueyes to give the Fleet the lead. Fellow midfielder Tales Domingues scored a goal of his own just three minutes later to seal the eventual win for Erskine.

Barton returns home to Wilson, N.C. for a non-conference contest with Chowan University on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
