GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Barton men's soccer team was unable to slow down one of the top offenses in Conference Carolinas, falling 4-0 to nationally ranked No. 14 Limestone College on Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Saints outshot the Bulldogs 26-2 in the contest as BC's two shots came in the final 11 minutes of play. Junior keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik matched a season-high with seven saves in the loss.
Limestone's Jorge Salvat scored an unassisted goal in the 11th minute to put his team ahead 1-0 after driving the ball into the back of the net after a failed clearance attempt by the Barton defense. The Saints carried the one-goal lead into intermission.
After the halftime break, Limestone continued to pressure the Bulldogs back line and broke through for three goals. The first goal came from the foot of Gui Machado, who is the league-leader in goals scored, in the 65th minute of play. The third goal of the game for the Saints came from Nestor Aguilar just four minutes later before Conor Young scored his team's final goal in the 85th minute.
Barton will look to get back in the win column when it hosts Belmont Abbey College on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Barton Outdoor Athletics Complex.
