WILSON, N.C. –The Barton College women's volleyball team earned a straight set victory over non-conference opponent Coker College on Tuesday night in Wilson Gymnasium
The Lady Bulldogs hit .234 as a team and held the Cobras to a .000 hitting percentage in the contest. Sophomore Stephanie Pingyin recorded her fifth double-double of the season, leading all players with 18 kills on a season-high .444 hitting percentage with 10 digs and four blocks.
Barton (6-8) jumped out to a 5-2 lead early in the first set before Coker (2-9) battled back to take an 8-7 lead. The two teams played to nine total ties in the set with BC earning a 25-23 victory after a Coker attack error and a kill from Pingyin.
BC won the second set by an identical 25-23 score, ending the set once again with a Pingyin kill. In the third and final set, the Lady Bulldogs built a 4-0 lead behind the services of freshman Hayley Marshburn, building its lead to a double-digit advantage with an attack error by the Cobras sandwiched between kills from junior Mariana Kedzia.
A kill from senior Ginny Howard and Coker's 25th attacking error ended the set with Barton ahead 25-7, the largest single-set victory in head coach Jeff Lennox's tenure in Wilson.
Freshman Angelica Acevedo recorded a match-high 30 assists and three service aces and Kedzia totaled eight kills and nine digs of her own.
Marshburn contributed six kills, five digs and three service aces, while freshman Alexandra Cullens matched her season-high with seven blocks in the winning effort.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas action on Friday, Oct. 2 when the team travels to Belmont, N.C. for a matchup with Belmont Abbey College at 7 p.m.
