WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College men's soccer team suffered its fourth consecutive defeat with a 1-0 loss to non-conference foe Tusculum College on Saturday night at the Barton Outdoor Athletics Complex.
Barton fell to 1-5 on the season as Tusculum improved its overall record to a 4-1 mark. The Pioneers outshot a struggling Bulldog offense 9-4 in the game as sophomore Jens Madsen Hordvik totaled three saves in goal.
Junior forward Rodrigo Neves had two chances on goal in the first 20 minutes of play but Tusculum keeper Jorge Alvarez was able to turn them away as the two teams played to a scoreless tie at the halftime intermission.
Tusculum and Barton were only able to get off one shot apiece in the early going of the second half until Pioneer forward Todd Fidler collected a deflection and sent a shot into the net to give Tusculum a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute of play.
The Bulldogs had a few chances in the closing minutes with a shot and a corner kick but the Pioneers held on to leave Wilson with a win.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday, Sept. 22 when in-state rival University of Mount Olive comes to Wilson for a match scheduled for 7 p.m.
