BANNER ELK, N.C. – The 2015 regular season came to end for the Barton College women's volleyball team with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 38-26) loss to Lees-McRae College on Saturday afternoon.
Barton finishes the season 14-12 overall and 9-7 in Conference Carolinas play, while Lees-McRae improved their season record to 8-19 overall and 7-9 in league play. With the loss BC is locked into the No. 2 seed from the North Division, holding a tie-breaker over Belmont Abbey after beating the Crusader twice during the regular season.
The Lady Bulldogs and Bobcats played to 10 total ties in the first set as BC held a 24-23 late in the opening frame. However, Lees-McRae tied the match with a kill by Jariliz Cotte and claimed the first set victory on back-to-back ball handling errors by Barton.
Lees-McRae once again used a late run to secure a 25-19 set two win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bobcats opened the third set by building a 4-1 lead before the Lady Bulldogs tied the set at 5-5 to even the score. The two teams played to three more ties before BC took its first lead of the set at 10-9 on a LMC attacking error.
Barton and Lees-McRae played to 18 more ties in the set with neither side able to gain an advantage of more than three points. LMC secured the straight-set victory with a service ace to end the third and final set with a 38-36 win.
Junior Mariana Kedzia recorded her fourth straight double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Hayley Marshburn also had 12 kills and 12 digs in the match, while fellow freshman Angelica Acevedo totaled a match-high 33 assists to go along with 12 digs of her own.
The Royal Blue and White will now prepare for the Conference Carolinas Tournament Quarterfinals where they will host North Greenville University on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in Wilson Gymnasium.
