TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton College men's soccer team scored a season-high five goals in a 5-1 route of Conference Carolinas foe North Greenville University on Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.
Senior Jovan Gracia got the scoring started for Barton (3-12-1, 2-7-1) with his third goal of the season in the 40th minute of play. The Bulldogs carried the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, North Greenville (2-13, 0-10) quickly tied the match at 1-1 with a goal in the 56th minute before sophomore Oscar Avila gave the Royal Blue and White the 2-1 lead with his first foal of the season in the 64th minute.
Barton's lead grew to a 3-1 advantage just two minutes later as freshman Tolly Beatson score his third goal of 2015. Junior Rodrigo Neves kept the goal-scoring barrage alive with a goal of his own in the 73rd minute on an assist from freshman Daniel Gregory.
Sophomore Michael Barrell scored his first career goal in the 85th minute to put the Bulldogs ahead 5-1, a lead they carried to the end of regulation. Fellow sophomore Jens Madsen Hordvik earned the victory with two saves in 75:45 of play as freshman Danny Garcia finished the final 14:15 of the match in goal.
Barton will now prepare for the Conference Carolinas Tournament beginning next Tuesday. The Bulldogs travel to Misenheimer, N.C. for a rematch with No. 1 Pfeiffer University at 7 p.m. in the tournament quarterfinals.
