WILSON, N.C. – Barton College was unable to overcome two first half goals by Limestone College as the Saints left the Barton Outdoor Athletic Complex with a 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.
Limestone's Gui Machado corralled a deflected shot attempt and placed the ball past Barton keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik in the 18th minute for his 12th goal of the season. Sebastian Gregersen put the Saints (9-3, 6-3) ahead 2-0 in the match finishing a cross from Jorge Salvat in the 37th minute of play as Limestone took a two-goal advantage into intermission.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair until Barton's Tolly Beatson recorded his second goal of the season in the 79th minute to put the Bulldogs (1-9-1, 0-6-1) on the scoreboard. The freshman ran onto a ball played from senior defender Jovan Gracia and chipped a shot over Limestone keeper Tom Godfrey for the score.
The Saints put the game away in the 85th minute as Gregersen scored his second goal of the match, a header on a corner kick from William Picoux, to seal the 3-1 win.
Hordvik collected four saves on the afternoon as Limestone outshot Barton 22-4 in the contest.
BC will be back on the pitch on Monday, Oct. 19 when the Bulldogs travel to Banner Elk, N.C. for a 5 p.m. matchup.
