BELMONT, N.C. – Despite a season-high 15 shots, the Barton College men's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw with the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College at Alumni Field.
The Bulldogs (1-8-1, 0-5-1) took their first shot of the contest just 30 seconds after the kickoff as Rodrigo Neves looked to give his team the early lead. Barton and Belmont Abbey played the majority of the first half in the midfield as the two teams headed to intermission with nothing on the scoreboard.
BC continued to be aggressive on offense, firing four shots in the second half's opening 10 minutes. Belmont Abbey (1-8-2, 0-4-2) countered with an offensive push of their own but could not find the back of the net.
Barton's best chance to claim victory came with just under five minutes to play as a shot from junior Alex David deflected off the post.
Neves took a shot in the closing seconds of the first overtime period that missed wide left as the Bulldogs and Crusaders ended the match with zeros on the scoreboard.
Sophomore keeper Jens Madsen Hordvik collected seven saves in the contest as 13 offside penalties by Barton negated a number of scoring opportunities.
The Royal Blue and White will host Limestone College in their next match on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. in Wilson.
