WILSON, N.C. – Barton College senior Emily Futral scored for the fifth consecutive match on a first-half goal, but King University netted the game-winner in overtime to claim a 2-1 Conference Carolinas victory on Saturday at the Barton Outdoor Athletic Complex.

King sophomore Hulda Sigurdardottir provided the game-ending goal just into the seventh minute of the first overtime period. The Icelander dropped a pass into the box to Catherine Walsh, who immediately returned it to Sigurdardottir on the right wing. The league's top freshman from a season ago dribbled through two Barton defenders before firing a shot to the right of keeper Kelsey Rothwell and into the left corner of the net for her seventh goal of the year.

King (6-3-2, 4-1-1) took all four shots in the overtime period, including an attempt by Sigurdardottir just two minutes earlier from the top of the box that missed wide right.

The Tornado enjoyed an 18-13 edge in attempts for the match, although Barton (5-3-2, 2-2-2) had an 8-4 advantage in a scoreless second period.

Barton took a 1-0 lead in the game's 20th minute when Futral took an entry pass at the top of the box, dribbled through several King defenders and spun to shoot past Tornado keeper Olivia Drake for her eighth goal of the year.

The lead stood until the 33rd minute, when the Tornado executed a series of precise passes to set up the game-tying goal. Siguardardottir drove the middle of the field before dumping the ball off to Miranda Smith along the right endline. Smith then crossed the ball back to Kendyl Baird off the left post, who finished the play with her fourth goal of the year.

Barton had a number of good lucks at the net in the second half, right up until Taylor Doeble's final attempt of regulation with four seconds to play, but Drake collected five of her six saves in the period to keep the Lady Bulldogs off the board again.

Rothwell posted seven saves between the pipes for the Lady Bulldogs, her second-highest total of the season.

The loss ended a three-match winning streak for Barton, which will return to action on Wednesday at Belmont Abbey College.
