WILSON, N.C.-Mount Olive's Daisy Thomas broke a scoreless tie with a goal in the 65th minute as the visiting Trojans slipped past Barton, 1-0, in a Conference Carolinas women's soccer match Wednesday.
Following a short pass into the box by Carlee Bock, Thomas spun away from a double-team and fired a shot from 10 yards out into the upper right-hand corner of the net, out of the reach of Barton keeper Carson Moore. The shot was one of 14 faced by Moore, who made nine saves against the Trojans (4-7-1, 3-4-0).
The Bulldogs (4-7-0, 3-5-0), meanwhile, managed just two shots in the contest against Mount Olive keeper Carolin Edenhofner, who posted her second straight shutout and third of the year.
Edenhofner stopped Barton's best two scoring chances in the contest before a shot could be taken, aggressively charging and diving on the ball near the top of the box during a Taylor Parrish breakaway run in the 11th minute, then covering up the ball in the box on another one-on-one opportunity for the Bulldogs in the 33rd minute.
Barton entered the contest having scored a goal in seven straight matches, and two goals in each of its last two. Both streaks were stopped by the Trojans, who won their third straight match.
The Bulldogs will travel to Gaffney, S.C., on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest against Limestone, their last road trip before a four-match homestand to complete the regular season.
