Chris Shaw completed his first season as head coach of thewomen’s soccer program at Barton College in 2013.

Inheriting a program that had recorded just 12 wins in the fourprevious seasons combined, Shaw made an immediate impact by leadinghis 2013 team to 14 wins. Shaw guided the program to its firstwinning season and first Conference Carolinas Tournament appearancesince 2008, and its first tournament win since 2005.

For his work in instantly turning around the program, Shaw wasnamed Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year for the second time inhis career.

Under his leadership, four players from the 2013 team were namedAll-Conference Carolinas, three were selected as NSCAAAll-Southeast Region, and one became just the second NCAA DivisionII women’s soccer All-American in Barton's history.

Prior to coaching the Lady Bulldogs, Shaw spent four years asassociate head coach at North Carolina State University. Coach Shawhelped guide the Wolfpack in the Division I ranks and in theAtlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Coach Shaw continues to reside inRaleigh and is currently coaching girls from both the Capital AreaSoccer League (CASL) and North Carolina’s Olympic DevelopmentProgram. 

Shaw spent two years as assistant coach at Fresno StateUniversity before NC State.

Shaw had coaching experience at the Division II level and withinConference Carolinas prior to Barton as head women’s soccercoach at local foe Mount Olive College for four seasons(2003-2007). During his tenure at Mount Olive, Shaw guided theTrojans to a 52-34 overall record. In 2004, Coach Shaw led MountOlive to a 20-3 record, the league tournament title (formallyCVAC), and was named the conference Coach of the Year. 

Shaw, who holds the Premier Diploma from the National SoccerCoaches Association of America and an “A” levelNational License from U.S. Soccer, was an All-American collegiateplayer at Methodist University. He contributed to the Monarchswinning four league titles and advancing to four NCAA tournamentappearances. Shaw earned Academic All-America status and wasMethodist’s male Athlete of the Year before graduating in1994 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and PhysicalEducation.

Shaw played professional soccer for the Raleigh Flyers of theUSISL before earning a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiologyfrom East Carolina University in 1997. He assisted with the Piratesmen’s soccer team for one season.

Shaw serves as a faculty member at Barton in conjunction withhis coaching duties and has numerous years of teaching experienceat both the collegiate and high school level.
