Jazz Vinson was hired as the first Head Coach in the history of Barton College's Flag Football Team. The program will begin playing intercollegiately in 2025-26.
Vinson also serves as the Bulldogs' running backs coach for the football program, where he is in his second season.
Vinson came to Barton after spending five years at his Hugh M. Cummings High School in Burlington, N.C., where he helped turn the Cavaliers football program around. The program went 2-9 before the staff change and Vinson was appointed to the role of Varsity Offensive Coordinator during the seven-game 2020 Spring COVID season. During that campaign, Cummings had its first regular season winning record since 2014.
Vinson’s offense proved to be productive when the Cavaliers defeated Ben L. Smith, 88-73, in the second game of the season to break the NCHSAA record for the most combined points in a single game. Cummings’ offenses did some very impressive things during his three-season tenure as the Offensive Coordinator.
