Barton College

Jazz Vinson

Jazz Vinson is beginning his third year as an Assistant Coach for Barton College and was elevated to Co-Offensive Coordinator in the summer of 2025 after spending two seasons as Running Backs Coach for the Bulldogs.

Vinson came to Barton after spending five seasons at his Hugh M. Cummings High School in Burlington, N.C., where he helped turn the Cavaliers football program around.

The Cavaliers were 2-9 before the staff change and Vinson was appointed to the role of Varsity Offensive Coordinator during the seven-game 2020 Spring COVID season.  During that campaign, Cummings had its first regular season winning record since 2014.

Vinson’s offense proved to be productive when the Cavaliers defeated Ben L. Smith, 88-73, in the second game of the season to break the NCHSAA record for the most combined points in a single game.  Cummings’ offenses did some very impressive things during his three-season tenure as the Offensive Coordinator.

Here are some more of Vinson’s accomplishments:

2023:  Coached running back Jordan Terrell to the program's first-ever NCAA Division II All-American honors.
2022:  Broke the school record for the most rushing yards in a single game (401) vs Princeton in the Third Round of the NCHSAA Playoffs:
2021:  The Cavaliers went 9-2-1 overall and 5-0 in league play while winning their first conference championship in 10 years.
2020:  The Cummings’ quarterback broke the school record for the most passing yards in a single game (556) vs. Carrboro.
2020:  The Cavaliers’ quarterback tied the school record for the most passing touchdowns in a single game (eight) vs. Carrboro.
2020:  The Cavaliers’ quarterback broke the NCHSAA Record for the most individual points scored in a single (50) vs. Carrboro.
2020:  Cummings’ quarterback broke the school record for the most total yards in a single game (573) vs. Carrboro.
2020:  Cummings’ wideout broke the school record for the most receiving yards in a single game (273) vs. Carrboro.

Vinson also coached and mentored Four-Star Athlete and Under Armor All-American Jonathan Paylor.  The Cavalier’ offense also had a member win the league offensive player-of-the-year award for three seasons in a row to go along with 19 offensive first-team all-conference selections in three seasons.
