Barton softball sweeps home doubleheader on Sunday afternoon over Elizabeth City State, 7-1 and 13-3

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (12-10) swept a doubleheader from Elizabeth City State (1-6), 7-1 and 13-3, Sunday afternoon at Jeffries Field.  The Bulldogs also ran their winning streak to four games.

Game One – Barton 7, Elizabeth City State 1
Barton broke a close game open with a five-run inning highlighted by an RBI double courtesy of junior outfielder Makenzie Burroughs (Morehead City, N.C.).  Burroughs finished three-for-three with two runs scored to lead the home team.

Barton freshman Haley Inman (Stokesdale, N.C.) improved to 5-4 on the year after earning the win.  Inman allowed just one run over five innings of work while limiting the Vikings to two hits with seven strikeouts.  The Vikings' Shaina Lugo (Bluffton, S.C.) (0-4) suffered the loss.

Game Two – Barton 13, Elizabeth City State 3 (five innings)
Barton put the game away early with an eight-run first inning highlighted again by Burroughs with a bases-clearing triple. 

Sophomore outfielder Savannah Strickland (Snow Camp, N.C.) added a two-run triple as well in the fourth frame to the Bulldogs run-rule the Vikings. 

Barton finished with 18 hits including three-for-three performances from senior outfielder Makenzie Cyzick (Dayton, Va.) and sophomore outfielder MacKenzie Taylor (Mebane, N.C.).

Barton sophomore Emily Bobo (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) (6-5) was credited with the win while Oreanna Davidson (Independence, Ky.) (1-2) suffered for the Elizabeth City State. 

Barton moves back into Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday when the Bulldogs travel to Florence, S.C., to take on Francis Marion in a doubleheader beginning at 4:00 p.m.  Elizabeth City State travels to Richmond, Va., to take on Virginia Union in a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
