WILSON, N.C. – The Barton College Division of Athletics announced today the addition of Women's and Men's Triathlon as varsity sports. Women's Triathlon will compete at the NCAA level and Men's Triathlon will compete under the umbrella of USA Triathlon as part of their Collegiate Club program.
"
We're excited to add the fast-growing sport of Triathlon to our Athletics portfolio," said Barton Vice President and Director of Athletics
Ken Tyler. "
After extensive analysis, we believe it aligns strongly with our mission and business model. We also expect tangential growth for our swimming and cross-country programs. We're grateful for the support of USA Triathlon, including a generous grant from the USA Triathlon Foundation, and look forward to hiring a dynamic coach and competing in fall 2026."
"
Barton College continues to impact the movement of college athletics, and we're excited about the opportunities their new triathlon program will create for our student athletes both on and off the field of play," said Tim Yount, USA Triathlon Chief of Sport Development.
A national search for the inaugural head coach will begin immediately. Inquiries regarding the new Triathlon program can be directed to Assistant Athletic Director
Christy Johnson at cmjohnson4@barton.edu.
