WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (13-15, 9-11) overcame a cold-shooting first quarter to topple Chowan (18-5, 15-5), 60-54, Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest and regular season finale at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton graduate student guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) led all scorers with a season-high 31 points as the Bulldogs overcame a 9-2 deficit after one quarter of play and upset the Hawks for their second straight victory.
Walker also moved into fifth place all-time on the Bulldogs' scoring list in the NCAA Division II era with 1,855 points.
The Bulldogs ended the third quarter by scoring the final six points including the game-winning free throw from junior guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) to break a 37-all tie with 41 seconds left in the stanza. Mingo also scored in double figures (11 points) for Barton, who avenged an earlier regular season loss to the Hawks.
Chowan's Nyeshia Savage (Suffolk, Va.) led the visitors with 11 points and the Hawks held a 57-40 advantage on the boards including 27 offensive rebounds despite the loss. Chowan, however, was done in by 21 turnovers in the setback.
Barton is the ninth seed in the 2025 Atlantic Casualty Insurance Company Conference Carolinas Championship and will take on tenth-seeded Converse (9-18, 7-13) in the opening round on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m., in Pembroke, N.C., on the campus of Pembroke, N.C.
