WILSON, N.C. — Barton College is pleased to announce the addition of field hockey to the women's sports portfolio. The new field hockey program will compete as an NCAA Division II varsity sport beginning in Fall of 2025.
"
We're excited to add field hockey at Barton College," shared Ken Tyler, vice president and director of athletics. "
After extensive research and analysis, we feel that field hockey is a natural fit for our Department of Athletics. It's a growing sport in our region and will provide opportunities in geographic areas where we're interested in recruiting more students. Field hockey will be an excellent complement in our pursuit of academic and athletic excellence, and we hope to compete in Conference Carolinas as early as 2026."
National Field Hockey Coaches Association Executive Director Cate Clark added: "
With the remarkable growth of field hockey in North Carolina and surrounding regions, the addition of field hockey fits the Barton College athletic portfolio perfectly. We are thrilled about the expansion of field hockey at all levels in the Carolinas and eagerly anticipate supporting and celebrating the launch of Barton's program."
The popularity of field hockey will contribute to the vibrancy of the Barton campus community, and the new program promises to draw enthusiastic fans in its first season. Electric Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium will be the home field for the new sport.
Barton College will open a nationwide search for a head field hockey coach this fall. For questions or additional information, please contact Ken Tyler at
