Barton women’s tennis falls just short in league showdown with Erskine, 4-3

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (10-3, 4-1) fell to No. 20 Erskine (14-2, 5-0) in a battle of league unbeatens in a Conference Carolinas showdown, 4-3, Saturday morning at Ralph L. Fike High School.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Tilde Howeler (Stockholm, SWEDEN) despite the loss.  Howeler won at first singles over Erskine's Emma Bentz (Suwanee, Ga.) by a score of 7-6 and 6-0 and teamed with sophomore Irma Granstam (Linkoping, SWEDEN) to prevail at first doubles.

The duo won over Bentz and Luize Valtere (Riga, LATVIA) by a 6-4 score.  Howeler and Granstam are now 10-1 at No. 1 doubles this season including a 5-0 mark in league play.

Barton, however, saw its nine-match winning streak come to an end.

Barton travels to Farmville, Va., to take on NCAA Division I Longwood on Sunday beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Erskine faces Emmanuel in Franklin Springs, Ga., on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
