Barton softball falls to Emmanuel in the Conference Carolinas Championship to end season

DUNCAN, S.C. – The Barton softball team (27-24) saw its season come to an end with an 8-1 setback to Emmanuel (33-23) Saturday afternoon in an elimination game of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Championship at Tyger River Park.

The Bulldogs were the ninth seed in the tournament while the Lions, the fifth seed, defeated North Greenville (36-20) later in the day and will play top-seeded Francis Marion (44-10) in the championship game Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Barton survived in the elimination round on Friday thanks to victories over Belmont Abbey (4-2) and Young Harris (4-1).

The Lions' Alyssa Adams (Orange Park, Fla.) hit a solo home run and Ellee Varner (Bold Springs, Ga.) added two hits and two RBI in the victory.  On the mound, Emmanuel's Maddie Edwards (Lakeland, Fla.) (19-6) allowed just one run while going the distance for the complete game win.

For Barton, junior second baseman Mary Lindsey Harris (Robersonville, N.C.) tallied a pair of hits and an RBI but senior Miranda Holmes (Godwin, N.C.) fell to 22-11 after taking the loss.  Holmes struck out seven batters and currently leads NCAA Division II in strikeouts with 304 strikeouts.
