WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (24-20, 13-9) swept UNC Pembroke (18-31, 9-13) in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader, 3-2 and 10-9, Wednesday afternoon at Jeffries Field.
Game One – Barton 3, UNC Pembroke 2

Miranda Holmes (Godwin, N.C.) (18-5) earned the complete game victory while striking out 11 batters as the Bulldogs were able to hold on to beat the Braves after scoring all three runs in the first frame.
Barton graduate student first baseman
Shelby Shepherd (Colorado Springs, Colo.) highlighted the frame with a two-run triple while UNC Pembroke's Summer Bullard (Pembroke, N.C.) fell to 8-12 after taking the loss.

Sydney Wade (Farmville, N.C.) hit the game-winning RBI infield single – scoring junior designated player
Gracelyn Massey (Princeton, N.C.) – as the Bulldogs rallied with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn the sweep.
Barton junior second baseman
Mary Lindsey Harris (Robersonville, N.C.) led the way for the home team offensively, hitting a two-run home run and driving in five runs. Holmes (19-5) earned the win in relief for the Bulldogs.
UNC Pembroke's Marijo Wilkes (Pembroke, N.C.) hit a pair of two-run home runs including a two-run round-tripper in the top of the seventh inning to force extra innings. Bullard (8-13) suffered the loss again.
Barton travels to Florence, S.C., to take on Francis Marion on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., in league doubleheader in the final doubleheader of the year while UNC Pembroke hosts Mount Olive at Noon Saturday in a doubleheader as well.
