SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (11-19) continued its improbable run through the 2024 Atlantic Casualty Championship with a 60-53 victory over Emmanuel (17-11) in the quarterfinal round Friday evening at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on the campus of Wofford College.
The Bulldogs, the tenth seed in the league tournament, will now face top-seeded UNC Pembroke (21-7) in the semifinal round on Saturday evening beginning at 5:15 p.m.
Barton was led by senior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.), with a game-high 26 points while freshman center
Nyla Powell (Rocky Mount, N.C.) neared a double-double – nine points and 16 points – as the Bulldogs won their fourth straight contest.
Trailing by a 43-42 score with just six over minutes left in the contest, the Bulldogs put together a 7-0 run to take the lead for good with Powell connecting on the game-winning field goal.
Emmanuel's Sydney Wyatt (Simpsonville, S.C.) scored a team-high 19 points but the Lions shot just 30 percent (18-of-60) from the field while the Bulldogs held a 51-44 edge on the board. Barton sophomore guard
