MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (6-4, 2-1) suffered its first loss in Conference Carolinas play with a 62-45 setback to Chowan (4-0, 2-0) Saturday afternoon at the Hawks Athletic Center and Bob Burke Court.
The Hawks' Yasmine Brown (Suffolk, Va.) led all scorers with 15 points and Desiree Askew (Ahoskie, N.C.) added a double-double – 14 points and 11 rebounds – as the Hawks slowly pulled away in the second half to remain undefeated on the year.

Celeste Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) both scored 10 points for the Bulldogs, who failed to score more than 12 points in any quarter and were limited to just 26 percent shooting (14-of-53) for the contest.
Chowan also held a sizable advantage on the boards – 61-30 – including 15 rebounds from Nyeshia Savage (Suffolk, Va.). Savage scored 10 points off the bench as well for the double-double.
Barton returns home to take on Francis Marion in a Conference Carolinas game on Saturday, December 14, at 2:00 p.m., in Wilson Gymnasium while Chowan hosts Mid-Atlantic Christian on Thursday starting at 5:00 p.m.
