BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Barton women's basketball team (7-5, 3-2) moved back over .500 in Conference Carolinas play with a 60-55 victory over King (5-7, 3-2) Tuesday afternoon at the Student Center Complex.
Barton junior guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) scored 16 of her game-high 18 points after halftime while freshman guard
Leah Hampton (Richmond, Va.) added 13 points as the Bulldogs hit all eight free throw attempts in the win.
King's Mariya Williams (Charlotte, N.C.) led the home team with 17 points and added 10 rebounds for the double-double but the Tornado shot just 36 percent (23-of-63) from the floor in the setback.
Trailing by a 43-42 margin after the start of the final period, Mingo hit what proved to be the game-winning lay-up to start a 9-0 run and the Bulldogs held the lead the rest of the way.
Barton senior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 10 points off the bench in the win.
Barton returns home to take on Coker on Wednesday, January 1, at Wilson Gymnasium beginning at 2:00 p.m., while King travels to Hickory, N.C., to face Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
