VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams picked up dominant victories over Virginia Wesleyan in a dual meet Friday afternoon at the Jane P. Batten Student Center Natatorium.
The men's squad defeated the Marlins by a 172-26 score while the women's squad prevailed over Virginia Wesleyan, 138-62.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs were led by freshman
Ryan Mcanallen (Saint Augustine, Fla.) and senior
Ethan Maddrey (Sims, N.C.). Mcanallen won the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.59) and 100-yard backstroke (54.36) while Maddrey claimed first place in the 200-yard (1:45.71) and 500-yard (4:55.66) freestyle events.
Mcanallen was part of the Bulldogs' first-place men's 200-yard medley relay (1:53.47) while Maddrey swam the first leg of Barton's winning men's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.87).
In the women's competition, Barton senior
Emme Ham (Plantation, Fla.) won a pair of individual events: the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.11) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.73).
Barton also prevailed in both the women's 200-yard medley relay (1:53.47) and the women's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.56). Senior
Megan Schueller (La Plata, Md.) was a part of both relays and captured the women's 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 24.81 for the Bulldogs.
The Barton men's and women's swimming teams next host Chowan on Saturday, January 20, at 1:00 p.m., in a dual meet at the Harrison Family YMCA in Rocky Mount, N.C.
