GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Barton men's and women's swimming teams opened the 2023-24 campaign at the East Carolina University Quad Meet Saturday afternoon at the Minges Natatorium.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs fell to Gardner-Webb (215-94), East Carolina (205-104) and Catawba (243-77) while the men's squad came up short against Gardner-Webb (226-94) and Catawba (221-96).
Barton was led by senior
Ethan Maddrey (Sims, N.C.), who finished second in the men's 200-yard freestyle (1:46.44) while sophomore
Ethan Koekemoer (Durban, SOUTH AFRICA) took third overall in the men's 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.17 seconds.
Barton senior
Alexis Lakey (Silver Spring, Md.) finished sixth overall in the women's 200-yard butterfly (2:21.63) and freshman freshman
Ryan Colburn (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed seventh in the women's 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:22.03.
The Barton swimming teams next compete in Murfreesboro, N.C., against Chowan on Saturday, October 7, at 3:00 p.m., in a dual meet.
