WINGATE, N.C. – The Barton College softball team (0-2) opened the 2023 season with a doubleheader setback to Wingate (2-0), 8-0 and 10-2, Sunday afternoon on the road.
Game One – Wingate 8, Barton 0 (five innings)
Wingate hit four home runs – including two round-trippers from Hannah Reeves (Reevesville, S.C.) – as the home team run-ruled the visitors in the first game of the season for both squads.
Reeves' second solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning ended the contest while Sydney Kale (Shelby, N.C.) pitched a two-hit shutout to go along with six strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound for Wingate. Wingate's Raelynn Kramer (New Bern, N.C.) hit a two-run home run and drove in three runs as well.
For Barton, senior
Rilee Jones (Norfolk, Va.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss.

Hannah Reeves hit her third home run on the day – one of three round-trippers in the second contest – as Wingate swept Barton and run-ruled the visitors for the second straight game.

Barton remains on the road to take on Catawba next Saturday, February 11, in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Wingate faces Embry-Riddle (1:00 p.m.) and Florida Tech (3:30 p.m.) in Longwood, Fla., in the Panther Invitational.
